Epic Autumn Elopement on the Isle of Skye – Samantha & Jacob
Sam and Jacob chose two locations, the Quiraing and the Old Man of Storr for their elopement on the Isle of Skye. Two breathtaking and magical places. One with undulating mountains like the Polish Karpatka cake (cake brewed with pudding cream), and the other with the rocky pinnacle, which one of the legends say is a thumb of a giant who when died was buried in the earth. Another one tells about an old married couple who turned back and were turned into stones.
But let’s start from the beginning, okay?
I re-read the exact description of where the Airbnb that Sam and Jacob rented on the Isle of Skye was located. “It has to be here. A high wall on one side, and gravel and an excavator on the side of the road on the other.” We drove down a narrow and steep road that led down to two houses. There was no one in the first. The second was also abandoned.
At the very end was a small cabin with a large floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the sea. “We arrived last night. It was already dark. We could hear the sound of the sea, but we didn’t know we had such a beautiful view.” We stood on the wooden landing by the door to the cabin and looked far away at the sea, whose waves crashed on the beach near Staffin. The Scottish Highlands on land could be seen in the distance.
Inside, Lynn did Sam a natural makeup and braided her hair into a boho-style hairstyle. Time passed slowly. At the last meal before going out, talking, laughing, writing personal vows, and dressing up in bridal clothes. The wooden cabin was so small that Jacob had to finish his vows outside to let Sam change her clothes.
We left the booth half an hour late and quietly followed the celebrant towards the Quiraing. The place where one of the most intimate catholic elopements on the Isle of Skye took place that I have ever photographed. Tears ran down Sam’s face as she read her vows to Jacob. The celebrant also cried. I had tears in my eyes.
And then we headed to the Old Man of Storr. There was no sign of a storm that was visiting the Isle of Skye that late afternoon. We came back wet, frightened, with lanterns in our hands. The Old Man of Storr is a very special and stunning place for an elopement on the Isle of Skye.
