Winter Gretna Green Elopement, Gilnockie Tower elopement – Sasha & Johnnie

Sasha and Johnnie winter Gretna Green elopement was very romantic. It was still dark when we arrived. We had to strain our eyes to see the outline of the Victorian cottage where Alexandra, Johnnie and two of their friends were staying overnight. Inside, we were greeted by the warm light of lit lamps. Johnnie and Sasha prepared themselves in separate rooms along the corridor. In Sasha’s room, on the wardrobe door, hung an original 1970s wedding dress from a boutique in Ireland. In the box next to it, there were beautiful low-heeled shoes. In a large box by the front door was a bouquet of dried flowers, two buttonholes, and a hair comb decorated with dried flowers which nicely matched the flowers in the bouquet.

Oh, it’s hard for me to write something again. I don’t want to describe to you minute by minute what happened then. I’ve always had a problem with that. My essays at school were too long because I couldn’t shorten them properly. All the details always seemed important to me. When I close my eyes and think about this day, I immediately remember Sasha and Johnnie’s first look. The moment Johnnie was standing by the window and Sasha walked over to him. The way Johnnie looked at her with delight. And that look when Sasha saw Johnnie wearing the Armstrong kilt. From the very beginning, i.e. from the first email, I got from Alexandra, I knew that it was a very important place for them, where both of them would want to get married and return to Johnnie’s roots. Therefore, they also chose the Gilnockie Tower as the place for the picnic after the ceremony. A place where various memorabilia related to the history of the Armstrong clan are kept.

I also remember the moment Sasha and Johnnie stood facing each other and uttered the vows. At some point, Johnnie had to take a deep breath and a short break, because emotions prevented him from uttering his voice for a moment. The moment when the celebrant handed them a box with tissues.

A room in the Gilnockie Tower, 5 by 5 meters, with a huge bed in the center, next to it a wooden wardrobe and a trunk by the bed, and outside it was heavy rain. It was the only room where they could hide from the rain. And then we went outside to explore the area around Gilnockie Tower.
